How We Work With Volunteers

At the County Wicklow Volunteer Centre we know that people who volunteer either formally or informally are the backbone of the country. We welcome all enquiries from potential volunteers in all parts of the county. People who have registered with us to volunteer are of all ages and all abilities with a range of different experiences. They know that giving an hour of their time once a week or once a year can make all the difference.

We recognise that:

  • some of you may want to volunteer long-term
  • others can only commit a limited amount of time to a once-off project.

Both types of volunteering are equally valuable. See our list of Volunteering Opportunities.

We know that people volunteer for different reasons to:

  • get out of the house
  • meet new people
  • gain experience
  • try something different
  • practice skills.

All good reasons for volunteering.

We value each of you who make an enquiry and will invite you to meet us for a chat to discuss potential volunteering roles. These chats are informal and designed to give you a flavour for the hundred of volunteering opportunities that currently exist and to explore which opportunity(s) would best suit you.

All discussions are confidential and there is no obligation on you to commit at this time. Our aim is to provide you with the information to make an informed choice so you should leave this meeting with a fair idea of the range of opportunities available and some specific opportunities that will satisfy your volunteering needs.

After meeting with us we give you the opportunity to have a think about what you would like to do and arrange to call you at a later date. When you have chosen the opportunity you like we:

  • Give you the contact details for the organisation
  • Contact the organisations on your behalf letting them know that you will be calling about a specific opportunity
  • Follow-up with you to ensure that the process is in train
  • Continue to support you in the early stages of your volunteering.
