DIYSOS Wicklow Town

Recently, our volunteers had the wonderful opportunity to be part of DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland, which took place in Wicklow. This project was dedicated to Kyle, a bright and determined 17-year-old from Wicklow Town who lives with cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair. Due to the current layout of the family home, Kyle has been unable to use his wheelchair indoors, making everyday life increasingly difficult. With the support of the DIY SOS team and the help of many volunteers, the aim was to transform the house to give Kyle greater independence and dignity.

The build ran for ten consecutive days, from 2nd to 11th September, and required the dedication of a wide range of volunteers. Our team was delighted to assist in different ways – from registration, catering support and serving meals, to keeping the site tidy and organised.

It was not only meaningful work but also an inspiring experience for everyone involved. Our volunteers were proud to contribute to such an important project, knowing that together we are helping to make a real difference to Kyle’s life and supporting his family.
