Volunteer for The Fleadh Outdoor Events & Car Parks – Wicklow & Leinster Fleadh 2024 (Wicklow Town)
The Leinster Fleadh, or Fleadh Laighean, takes place annually, with competitors qualifying by competing in their county fleadhanna (of which there are twelve throughout the province).
This year’s Leinster Fleadh will offer a range of competitions, hosted between 12th and 14th of July in Wicklow Town!
The Fleadh is far more than a music competition and serves as a celebration of traditional Irish culture and heritage.
During the 3 days and evenings of the Leinster Fleadh, from the 12th to the 14th July, we will have lots of outdoor entertainment on the streets of Wicklow Town.
There will be a big stage in Abbey Street Car Park for entertainers. We will require volunteers for this area and other sites and venues on all three days.
Volunteer Shifts are 3 to 4 hours long and are available mornings, afternoons, & evenings on all three days.
Hygiene Hub Wicklow
We believe no child should be experiencing hygiene poverty. This time of the year causes a financial strain on most families; the cost of books, uniforms, and everything else involved can quickly add up.
For some families, this strain will mean making some very difficult choices. We want to help those households and ensure that no child has to go to school without having access to everyday essentials that most of us take for granted.
How can you help?
Choose whether you would like to support a primary or secondary school child and donate items for them at one of our drop-off points in Wicklow.
If you would like to make a larger product donation, please get in touch with us by emailing wicklow@hygienehub.ie and we will arrange something as we don’t want to overwhelm the small businesses who are being so generous by hosting a box for us.
Help us supply the basics to the most vulnerable.
We will be collecting from now until mid-August
so we can donate in time before the schools go back.

Care & Learn Ireland (CALI) (Newtownmountkennedy)
CALI Centres – Care and Learn Ireland is an innovative initiative that provides a Learning Day Service for young adults with a severe to profound intellectual disability.
It provides education, multidisciplinary therapies, and care to recent school leavers. Previously school leavers in this cohort had little access to appropriate formal learning opportunities.
This cohort of society urgently needs further learning pathways. Without continuing learning opportunities these young adults risk losing the skills, knowledge, and advances gained in school.
This is an exciting initiative that has the potential to transform the lives of people with severe to profound intellectual disability.

Community Representative – East Coast Regional Drugs & Alcohol Task Force
Do you want to make a positive difference in your community? Are you currently involved in your community in any capacity or wish to get involved?
We are a multi-agency partnership that discusses and make decisions on the provision of services in this region appropriate to the needs identified. Our members are other community representatives, voluntary services representatives and statutory agencies. Involvement from the community is essential so that local knowledge and insight can be considered when we address the needs in current service provision.
The Task Force asks that the volunteer has some connections and insight into the workings of their community and the concerns and needs (often hidden) linked to addiction and social inclusion in their communities.
Documents will be circulated by email (or post, if requested) to members, so that all attendees are informed on the issues to be discussed and decided upon. You will act as an ambassador for the task force and for your community, signposting people towards appropriate services and information sharing with agencies on the task force for the purposes of a collaborative and holistic community approach.
Meetings are held at various locations in the region but transport costs and parking costs will be met. It is important that the volunteer attends regularly and takes an active part in the discussions and decisions. Occasionally some evening events held that members would be expected to attend.
Committee Members – Arklow Maritime Museum
Over the past few years, Arklow Maritime Museum has doubled in size, has developed a very successful Schools Programme, and our annual visitor numbers have increased ten-fold.
We are members of the Irish Museums Association of Ireland and have embarked on getting full Museum Accreditation Standard from the Heritage Council of Ireland. The museum has a great staff, supplied by ABEC and TÚS, who carry out all the day-to-day tasks that keep the museum open and thriving 361 days a year – that is, open seven-days-a-week including bank holidays, and are closed only on New Year’s Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and St Stephens’ Day.
All this increased activity has put a strain on the small voluntary committee who run it and we are putting out a call to anyone who feels they can help plan its future.
We need help with on-going projects, plan future policies and smoothly run what has essentially become a small not-for-profit community enterprise. Strange as it may seem, a knowledge of, or even an interest in history, local or otherwise, is not essential.
Right now, it is organisational and business skills that are most required. We need new committee members to help us plan policy, chase funding and to generally get us to the next stage of our development.
Anyone, particularly anyone with business or management experience, willing to volunteer a few hours a month, we meet up the last Thursday evening of each month at 7.00pm, will help ensure Arklow Maritime Museum will be open for the next 50 years.
First Responder – Bray Cardiac First Responders
Volunteers are required to give a commitment of a minimum of 4 hours a week. All training needed will be provided to the new responders and you will be required to do training one evening each month, the first Thursday of each month. New volunteers will work alongside an experienced responder for the first few months.
The National Ambulance Service (NAS) notifies Bray Cardiac First Responders (Bray CFR) of their need to attend a call via text message. Bray CFR do not attend trauma cases but are requested to respond to situations related to Stroke, Collapse, Chest Pain, Cardiac Arrest, Choking. The target response time from receiving a call to attending a scene is 6 minutes.
First responders offer reassurance and comfort, preform CPR, use a defibrillator etc.
Conversational English Group – Dunlavin Library
We are planning to have an informal conversational English language group that meets in Dunlavin library each Tuesday evening from 6.45pm-7.45pm.
New residents of Dunlavin will be invited to come to practice their spoken English with a group of volunteers.
These sessions will give our new community members the chance to listen and chat in English in an informal and friendly setting. It will be a fun and sociable group whose main aim is to give the learners confidence to chat and socialise in English.
Charity Shop Assistant – Vincent’s Charity Shop (Greystones)

Our Vincent’s shops are a very important aspect of the service SVP provides. Not only do they provide people with new and lightly worn items at affordable prices, they also provide an income source for the Society, which is recycled directly back into the community.
The shops are managed by a small number of professionals; assisted by a large number of volunteers; and by community employment trainees.

Survey Participant – PRISM Project
Dr. Sadhbh Byrne, an Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology, Maynooth University, is undertaking a research study called PRISM, in partnership with Mental Health Ireland.
This study is funded by the Irish Research Council. The research assistant working on this study is Georgia Brown. The PRISM study is exploring the support that young people provide to friends who are experiencing mental health challenges or going through a tough time.
If you are aged 18-25, live on the island of Ireland, and have experience supporting a friend through a tough time, you are invited to participate in the PRISM Project.
The study aims to understand what sort of support is provided by friends, and what the experience of supporting a friend is like. This information will be collected through a survey.
The survey was designed in partnership with a group of 6 young adults living in Ireland, who themselves have experience providing support to friends. If you decide to take part, you will be asked to answer a series of questions concerning your experience of providing mental health support to a friend. You will also be asked some short sociodemographic questions (e.g., your age, gender, ethnic/cultural background).
Participation should take approximately 15 minutes. This is an anonymous survey. The survey will not ask you to provide any identifiable information (e.g., your name, email address) at any stage and your IP address will not be collected.
You will be asked questions about your age, gender, ethnic/cultural background, the county you live in, and whether you are currently studying or working. Other survey questions will be about the support you provided to a friend, what the experience of providing support was like, and what information and resources might be helpful for young people providing support. You do not need to answer any questions you don’t feel comfortable answering.
