Anastasia, A fabulous young volunteer tells us her story of volunteering in Wicklow

I’m Anastasia, and my journey into volunteering began when I arrived in Ireland and was looking for ways to spend my time meaningfully.

I’m from Ukraine, and in 2023, I encountered a volunteering organization that helped me socialize. Here, I also met Timofii, whom I discovered attended the same school as me. At other events, I met many other people. I volunteered at events such as:
• Christmas Lights in Arklow
• St Saviors event
• Wicklow Hospice Half Marathon 10K in 2024
• Lakers Roundwood Run 10K.
And this is not a complete list!

I learned about the opportunity to help others through various organizations. Gradually, I grew into this role by participating in different projects and events. Volunteering can take many forms, from participating in charity events and fundraising to providing support in local communities, volunteering in community events, or even participating in some fundraising events. The main idea is selfless assistance and support aimed at improving the lives of others and the development of society.

My most significant volunteering experience was helping raise funds for hospice patients. This activity inspired me to further action and helped me understand the importance of volunteer work in society.

Seeing and participating in interesting events, I realized I wanted to become an event manager and pursued this specialisation at BIFE.
