Upon arriving in Ireland, I was offered the chance to join the volunteer centre in my region of residence. I agreed because it was beneficial for me to learn about the new culture surrounding me, about the Irish people, their history, language, religion, and architecture, to hear their pronunciation, and to personally get to know them.
Thanks to volunteering, I have improved my English and actively participate in this community, taking part in events and interacting with other participants.
Even at the age of 17, I can do things that are useful for today’s society, whether it’s providing water to runners or working as a porter at the church entrance. Each volunteer is organized for their task and provided with all the conditions for their activities. I did everything possible to actively participate and make a significant contribution to achieving the goals.
At one of the events, I met Anastasiia, who had been in Ireland for 2 years and had experience in volunteering. She helped me understand the structure and schedule of events and introduced me to other volunteers. Furthermore, when I started school, I found out that she was studying at the same school.
I would recommend volunteering to my family, friends, and colleagues because volunteering can help with cultural adaptation and obtaining recommendations for job searching if you have just moved to a new country.
