Umar says ‘Volunteering has enriched my life in so many ways’

I’ve been volunteering through Wicklow Volunteer Centre for about 2 months now.  It has been an incredible experience!

I recently volunteered at the Lakers East Event held at the Kilruddery Estate in Bray, where I had the joy of working with kids. My task was to engage them in fun activities like hopscotch and learning about the alphabet. Seeing the kids’ faces light up as they played and learned was truly amazing. I loved spending time with them and watching them grow more confident. It was rewarding to put smiles on their faces and create lasting memories. The experience was truly unforgettable, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in their lives. The kids’ energy was infectious.

Volunteering has enriched my life in so many ways. I’ve formed strong bonds with the other volunteers and staff, and we’ve become like a big family. I’ve also developed new skills, such as leadership and communication, which have been invaluable in my professional life. But most importantly, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the community and the challenges that many people face. It’s been a truly eye-opening experience.

I would absolutely encourage my family, friends, and colleagues to volunteer with your organisation. Not only does it make a real difference in the community, but it’s also an incredible way to meet new people, develop new skills, and feel a sense of purpose. I’ve met so many amazing people through volunteering, and I feel like I’ve found a new family. If you’re thinking about volunteering, I say go for it! You won’t regret it.
