How we work with volunteers

At the County Wicklow Volunteer Centre, we know that people who volunteer either formally or informally are the backbone of the country. We welcome all enquiries from potential volunteers in all parts of the county. People who have registered with us to volunteer are of all ages and all abilities with a range of different experiences. They know that giving an hour of their time once a week or once a year can make all the difference.  We recognise that some of you may want to volunteer long-term others can only commit a limited amount of time to a once-off project.  Both types of volunteering are equally valuable.

We know that people volunteer for different reasons to:

  • get out of the house
  • meet new people
  • gain experience
  • try something different
  • practice skills

All excellent reasons for volunteering!

Volunteers who register with us, receive a high quality and free matching service. If you have looked around our site and decide that you would like to volunteer you can do so by registering online.

When you have registered we will contact you and add you to our database, then we can try and help you find a suitable volunteering role. Volunteers who contact us often select one or more volunteering opportunities, which they would like to pursue. Our aim is to match you with a role and give whatever assistance is necessary to facilitate the placement and introduction to the organisation. If you would like to discuss the options in more detail give us a call.

We recognise that within our society certain individuals and groups of people are unfairly discriminated against, because of age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, mental or physical disability, race, creed, colour, nationality, political, economic status or criminal record. Wicklow Volunteer Centre strives to eliminate all such forms of discrimination thus ensuring that all people are treated with dignity and respect in the workplace and beyond.
