History of County Wicklow Volunteer Centre

Based on research conducted by Dargle Community Alliance with the help and encouragement of Bray Area Partnership, Bray Volunteer Bureau was launched in August 2004 with Leah Kinsella taking up the position of part-time manager.  By late 2005 the local demand for the service was such that Yvonne Ryan was employed as a placement officer on a part-time basis.

New offices were opened in Arklow in 2006 and Wicklow in 2007 in response to discussions with the local community and voluntary groups and County Wicklow Partnership. Fiona Downes was employed part-time to develop these regions under the direction of the board and manager.  Given these developments, the name was changed to the County Wicklow Volunteer Centre in mid-2007.

Initially funded by Bray Area Partnership, Bray Municipal District (was Bray Town Council), and private funders, by 2005 we were starting to be funded by the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government and from 2007 our funders have included  County Wicklow Partnership, Bray Area Partnership Wicklow County Council and Arklow Town Council.
