Disability & inclusion toolkit for community groups

Disability Federation of Ireland’s partnership with Wicklow County Council responds to the needs of people with disabilities in County Wicklow.

Wicklow County Council’s Disability & Inclusion Steering Committee (DISC for short) has launched the Disability and Inclusion Strategy.  DISC has been working towards this launch since its committee was established in 2020.

The aims of DISC, which was established in 2020, are to:

• Promote disability inclusion and implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) in Wicklow County Council
• Ensure that disabled people and their supporters are facilitated to participate and have their voices heard
• Influence Wicklow County Council and local communities to become more aware of, and responsive to the needs of people with disabilities.

The strategy outlines how Wicklow County Council and other community stakeholders will work to make Wicklow a more accessible and inclusive county, over the next five years.  The new Accessibility Toolkit for community groups and clubs, to support them to make their services and activities more accessible and inclusive, is available to download here DISC Toolkit December 2022 DIGITAL LINKS.

The toolkit has lots of great information in areas such as: inclusive communication; building design & accessibility; group management & planning of activities – along with inspiring case studies from local groups across County Wicklow and signposting to further information.
