WhatsApp Group – Guidelines to promote respectful conduct

At the outset, everyone must consent before being put into a WhatsApp Group as their telephone number will be visible to all within the group, and personal telephone numbers cannot be communicated without consent.

Such a group is set up in a spirit of informal communication amongst a group of persons sharing the same common interest. In keeping with that spirit, it is not the intention that there ought to be an overly legalistic attitude towards its operation. However, it is recommended that as a minimum the following be adhered to:

1. You must be always considerate and respectful to others.
2. Be polite and observe the same level of courtesy as you would do if you were speaking to someone face-to-face.
3. Do not share or discuss personal information in the group such as names; addresses, issues; etc.
4. Do not share confidential information about any other individual in the group.  Respect everyone’s privacy, being part of the group requires mutual trust.
5. Refrain from commenting or sharing any unnecessary content, such as videos or pictures that do not relate directly to the volunteering activities.
6. Use alternative groups or chats for personal discussions.
7. Please only discuss issues relating to your voluntary role with [the person responsible/the organisation].
8. Understand that the discussions will be moderated by the group admin and any inappropriate activity will lead to automatic and immediate deletion from the group.
9. Only respond to a post when requested to do so.
